Rouspeter

'rouspeter' is, alas, one of those words that does not have a direct English translation. It's a cross between complaining and whining with a little scolding thrown in for good measure, while conveying an attitude of being highly annoyed. Sometimes I think my mom and her sisters are in a 'rouspeting' contest in which each one is desperately trying to win the gold.

Check out the lyrics to the chorus of the CSN&Y tune "Teach Your Children": all you can do is look at them and sigh, and know they love you, and, surely, each other. Unfortunately, rouspeter is a place where all sibs find themselves from time to time, even when they don't want to be there. I hate to say it, but I'm sure there have been times when I've treated some of my best friends this way. How was the wedding? Steph
